Cold Asphalt Milling / Grinding

Asphalt Milling is an important technique used to ‘Green our Roadways’. Asphalt pavement as well as concrete roadways and bridge decks require periodic maintenance and replacement or resurfacing. Cold Asphalt Milling is the controlled removal of an asphalt or concrete surface at a precise depth by a self-propelled milling machine, which come in a variety of sizes, from half meter (mini) to full lane mills. The mills grind the pavement with a drum that is surfaced with precision carbide tip teeth, and are equipped with automatic grade control systems, allowing surfaces to be milled to specified elevations, profiles, and cross-slopes. The Recycled Asphalt Product (RAP) generated during the milling operation is loaded into trucks via a conveyor system and typically transported off site.

Advantages

The advantage of Asphalt Milling allows the road surface to be removed efficiently to precise depths with less mess in record time. For example, Canadian winters result in spring road heaves that are best leveled through Asphalt Milling. Specifications for road maintenance are constantly being examined to identify greening opportunities, and Asphalt Milling is becoming the standard.

Asphalt Recycling

The RAP can be further recycled by LeDuc through its Cold Recycling Mixing Plant and used for a variety of requirements, including but not limited to, secondary roadways, commercial yards, and private drives and acreages.

Technology

Asphalt Milling has been widely practiced since the 1970’s, but equipment, techniques and costs have improved tremendously in 4 decades. LeDuc Asphalt Milling is up to date on all new technologies and has an impressive fleet of 14 milling machines that are primarily Wirtgen machines. The LeDuc family has contributed to design changes over the last 30 years, keeping in close touch with manufacturers to present suggestions and ideas on improving design and function. LeDuc is a leader in this industry, specializing and focusing on productivity and efficiencies that keep clients on schedule and on budget.
